Free 3D room planner: see how it fits before you buy
FreeBuildMyRoom (FBMR) is a browser-based room planner for homeowners, installers and designers. Start with a product you found online, enter its overall dimensions, and try a similar planning model in your room.
No sign-up is required for the public planner. All features are currently free, including the FBMR Plus preview during development. This is a development preview, not a promise of permanent free Plus access.
Plan in 2D, explore in 3D
Draw or enter room measurements in millimetres. Arrange furniture and fittings in a 2D room plan, inspect wall elevations, and explore the room in interactive 3D. VR viewing is available on supported devices and browsers.
Try products from different suppliers
Search Google, return with a supplier product link, and save it in your wish list. Add a screenshot, enter dimensions and an optional price, then choose a similar FBMR model to test the layout. Supplier dimensions can size suitable models; shapes and finishes are approximate unless you have the exact model. Some supplier pages cannot be read automatically. Check measurements against the supplier before buying.
Plan a bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, lounge/diner or office, or work across rooms in a floor plan. Generic models let you fill out a room without finding every item online. The model library is continually being expanded and improved during development.
Scan or measure your room
On a compatible LiDAR-equipped device, scan using a separate supported scanning app and import its RoomPlan JSON file into FBMR. FBMR does not scan directly in the browser. The current import supports one rectangular room with four straight walls at a time, not an entire scanned floor. Check scan measurements with a tape or laser. Manual room entry is also available.
Tiles, finishes and calculations
Explore tiles, colours and finishes. Use generic tiles, create tile faces in the tile generator or bring in a permitted supplier tile image. Room plans and elevations help you review layouts. Calculators provide estimates for tiles, grout, paint, stud walls and other materials; review allowances and site conditions before ordering.
Save and refine your design
Save your design to a file and reopen it to continue. Use the wish list to keep product links and details alongside your plan. FBMR is an independent visual planning aid and is not affiliated with the retailers featured in your wish list.
Frequently asked questions
Is this only a 2D planner?
No. FBMR includes interactive 3D room views, 2D room plans and wall elevations, with VR viewing on supported devices.
Does FBMR import the exact product model from a shop link?
No. A supplier link records the product you want. You choose a similar planning model and confirm its dimensions. The model is a visual approximation.
Do I need LiDAR?
No. You can draw your room or enter its measurements manually. LiDAR import is an optional starting point.
Does it work with retailers outside the UK?
You can record product links from different retailers and enter dimensions in millimetres, centimetres, metres or inches. Automatic reading varies by website. The interface is in English and price-entry fields currently use pounds sterling.
